The Government of Punjab is making strenuous efforts for a better and effective Health Care system .The Defining step in this direction was to recognize the importance of Health Care at Primary & Secondary Levels. As a first step towards better health care at primary and secondary level, a separate department was created. The basic mandate of Primary & Secondary Health Department is to focus on preventive health care in primary sector along with basic diagnostics and treatment facilities at secondary level. The context is to primarily lessen the load on tertiary care health facilities. THQ Hospital Arifwa was established to present site in 1980 and now its strength is 67 bedded. Total population of tehsil arifwala is 720000. Because of Geographic locality on, this hospital is providing services not only to resident of Arifwala city but also to inhabitants of adjacent tehsil as well.
THQ Hospital Arifwala provide a range of specialist care in addition to basic outpatient and inpatient services. They typically have about 67 beds and a broad range of specialized services including surgery, medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, etc. Patient who are in need of intensive care are usually referred to tertiary care hospital but due to long distance they had to travel and time consumed on road due to heavy traffic and other unavoidable circumstance ,patient’s condition not only deteriorate but also compromise the effectiveness of life saving intervention. Keeping this fact in mind, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has decided to revamp facilities in THQ hospital as a part of its Annual Development Plan. This will improve the quality of healthcare and timely provision of life saving treatment and it will be possible to provide health facilities to a large number of patients.
